Go to school. Take the tests. Let an institution tell you how smart you are by printing a bunch of letters onto a sheet of paper. Go to college and do the same thing. Get a job. Raise a family. Live out your days going to work, providing for the said family and attempting to stay sane until the bitter end. Which could be at any given moment of your life.

This week’s blog post has spawned from my undertaking of the #530AM challenge, which I will begin Monday the 6th of November and keep up until Wednesday the 6th of December. It’s pretty obvious what the aim of the challenge is but for anyone who still isn’t sure of the premise basically I’m going to wake up at 5:30 AM every day for one whole month. It sounds like a very outlandish challenge I know, but the hint is in the name. It’s a challenge. Boy, do I like a challenge. Not you’re typical cinnamon challenge or salt and ice challenge no. This is a healthy and relatively simple challenge that I believe everyone should try at some time or another in their lives. But I’ve decided that I’m going to try this challenge even if it kills me.

In a weekend I’ve watched more football matches than I have in the last two years. They were fun to view alright. But the experience as a whole has really made me think about why exactly I don’t go to these games very often or other public events like them for that matter. And it’s definitely begged the question; am I an introvert or a feckin’ eejit..

You’ll be amazed at what happens when you do.
Lately I’ve found that I’ve started stepping out of my comfort zone, especially when it comes to doing things I wouldn’t normally do or be into.
I realised a couple of years ago that I wasn’t as good at that as I should have been when it came to relationships.
I can recount several times that I’ve been with a friend that’d maybe suggest something to do that they’re really interested in and I’d mentally cringe away from and try to avoid doing at all costs.
It was obviously very selfish of me to do so when I was younger and of course I didn’t realise it then. But as Fleetwood Mac write in their soothing guitar record Landslide,
“Time makes you bolder, children get older and I’m getting older too.”
Basically what I’m trying to say is that since then I’ve noticed that I’ve really tried to push myself to do things that I normally wouldn’t do for the people in my life that ask me to because they enjoy them.
It’s kind of hard to explain with words but I can always do my best.
But why I’m writing about this and why it is of any significance at all is because I’ve noticed and discovered that it makes me significantly happier and aswell as the people I do these things for.
The sole purpose of this piece is to inspire and encourage others to do the same (there I finally managed to condense it down to a sentence!). To reach out of your comfort zones, grab life by the clitoris and do what you don’t.
Shall we begin?
